PROMPT #2

Seeing-as the Igbo culture views women as weaker and unimportant compared to the men, I feel as though they aren't too far away from how a lot of americans still view women in the world. Personally, I believe that men are inferior to women in an emotional and entail aspect. Considering that wars start because of men. Honestly, whens the last time you've ever heard of a war caused by women? Exactly, you have never heard of such because women don't usually concern themselves with matters such as that. Men have a huge Superiority complex that often causes them to feel as though they have to prove their masculinity through violence.

In my life I've heard a lot of sexist comments, including from family, classmates, friends, etc. In all honestly I could care less about how others view me, or my place in society. Yes, I do cook and clean a lot. that doesn't mean that those are the only things that I'm capable of accomplishing. My step father under estimates me when I try and do something and tells me to do things that I already know how to do because of my lack of "wisdom". Well, I guess I'm connected to the book through how i'm often looked down on and taken for granted.

PROMPT #1

My first impression of Things Fall Apart wasthat it was a bit boring, but upon reading further into it, I've grown fond of Achebe's writing style, and his subject of how the Ibo tribe operates. From the third chapter, I got into the book and found it interesting, which leads me to think that because it starts out slow, a lot of people won't take to it as I have. Reading about a different culture that is really the complete opposite of ours satisfies my thirst for knowledge of how people around the world live.

I'm not going to agree with their cultures of only men being able to make decisions, and that they leave the ill to die in "The Evil Forest". To me, that isn't truly necessary considering that the bodies are still going to contaminate the earth in decomposition. Now for the first matter. THE FACT THAT MEN MAKE BASICALLY ALL OF THEIR DECISIONS IS QUITE UPSETTING TO ME. But, I'm not going to hate their whole system for it and will respect their customs. What I believe is that any intelligent being should be able to make choices, instead of only males.

Even though they are far away from us in both technology and distance, they still are similar to us in that they celebrate a lot of the same holidays we do. They are different in more ways than they are similar to us. Their way of living is the opposite of ours. Here, we have machines that do things for us that they do by hand. Another difference is that the Ibo tribe thrive off of their own crops and most Americans go to the store and buy items that they are incapable of growing themselves due to lack of time, knowledge, or motivation to do so. Personally, I think life would be easier if we would just plant our own crops to make things easier. Just sayin'.
